Osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative joint disease, is a very common condition that can affect any joint in the body but is most commonly seen in weight bearing joints (knees, hips, spine) and joints prone to overuse (hands and shoulders). Common causes of osteoarthritis include joint trauma (motor vehicle accidents), overuse syndrome (athletes) and joint misalignment (joint subluxation). The result is damage to the joint surface and the cushioning cartilage. Chiropractic care promotes restoration of proper joint alignment, motion and function (remember: motion is lotion)… Proper alignment allows for healthy joints, soft tissues (muscles and ligaments) and neves. Chiropractic care will address the cause of osteoarthritis, not merely treat the symptoms.
